Position Description

Food Bank For New York City is the city's major hunger-relief organization. The Food Bank works to end food poverty and increase access to affordable, nutritious food for low-income New Yorkers throughout the five boroughs; our initiatives focus on direct services, food sourcing and distribution, nutrition and health education, financial empowerment, disaster relief and policy and research.

The Food Bank procures and distributes food to a network of approximately 1,000 food assistance programs citywide. In addition, we provide food safety and capacity-building workshops; manage school nutrition education programs, after-school and emergency food programs; conduct food stamp prescreening and outreach; operate a Senior Food Program and a soup kitchen and food pantry; coordinate the largest Free Tax Assistance Program in the country; and develop policy and conduct research to inform community and government efforts to end food poverty throughout New York City.

Primary Purpose of Job
The purpose of this position is to plan, coordinate and participate in effective and engaging trainings for the Food Bank’s nutrition education program. Working with the Sr. Manager of Education and program staff, he/she will manage training events for a variety of audiences. Working within a fast paced environment, this position requires an individual with a solid understanding of event coordination and effective training techniques, management experience and the ability to work and communicate with a variety of audiences.
 
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate training events for education programs, including securing event space, equipment and materials, planning layout and flow of activities and assist with registration process;
  • Work with program staff to implement trainings for diverse audiences including educators, youth and internal staff, including providing event oversight and leading workshops or training activities as needed.;
  • Coordinate and maintain relationships with external partners and consultants;
  • Provide input as needed into development of training curricula;
  • Work with evaluation staff to develop outcome evaluation tools to monitor the effectiveness of trainings and make adjustments as needed;
  • Serve as an organizational representative at trainings, external meetings and forums;
  • Work with internal staff and outside consultants to design, layout and publish training materials;
  • Additional duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred);
  • Three to five years direct experience with event coordination;
  • Experience with training and education, preferably in the area of poverty;
  • Background in training diverse age groups and learning styles and community settings preferred;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Event coordination and public speaking required;
  • Demonstrated project management experience with the flexibility to work independently as well as collaboratively;
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments with a high degree of professionalism;
  • Interest and familiarity with food poverty and nutrition policy a plus;
  • Proficiency in all MS office applications required;
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages a plus.
